Wildcats Clash with Nighthawks in Final Home Series

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Central Washington Baseball will honor six seniors as they welcome Northwest Nazarene for a four-game Great Northwest Athletic Conference series this Friday and Saturday.

Both Friday and Saturday include doubleheaders scheduled to start at noon. Senior Day celebrations will take place before Saturday's games.

"This is obviously an important series and the last one at home, we need to play quality baseball through the weekend. The seniors have been great. They have shown leadership and great work ethic, as well as determination to help this team improve."
 
CELEBRATING THE SENIORS
The Wildcats will honor Brayde Hirai, Trevor Tripoli, Kyle Rodriguez, Charlie Larson, Andrew Van Kemseke, and Coby Musselmann for their hard work and commitment to CWU baseball.

LAST TIME OUT
Central Washington got swept by Western Oregon over the weekend. The 'Cats are now in fourth place in the GNAC and need to catch Saint Martin's to overtake third place and make the playoffs. 

WILDCAT STATS
Ben Leid has the best batting average on the team hitting .342 with 10 doubles, one triple, three home runs, and 25 RBIs. Travis Helm leads the team in RBIs with 28 and Austin Ohland has the most homers this season, hitting six.

On the mound, Daniel Charron and Brayde Hirai are the mainstays for the 'Cats. Charron is 3-4 and has struck out 34 batters over 50 innings. Hirai is also 3-4 throwing 53 innings and striking out 16 batters this season.

SCOUTING THE NIGHTHAWKS
Northwest Nazarene is 20-22 overall and ranked 2nd in the GNAC with a 14-10 record. The Nighthawks split their four-game series with Montana State Billings last weekend, winning Saturday's games 8-4 and 5-2.

Mason Leavitt drives the Nighthawk's offense hitting .359 with six doubles and 12 RBIs. Shane Jamison leads the team in RBIs and home runs with 35 RBIs and six homers.

Brock Moffitt is Northwest Nazarene's ace. He is 3-4 this season with a 5.36 ERA and has struck out 52 batters in 50 innings of work.

Other pitchers the 'Cats might face this weekend are Joseph Ihli (3-2, 8 saves), Shane Martin (3-2), Ty Pohlmann (3-1), and Jonathan Zayas (2-4).

LOOKING AHEAD
The Wildcats host Lewis & Clark State College for their final home game of the season on Wednesday, April 26th at 3:00 p.m.
