QUOTING CWU HEAD TRACK & FIELD COACH JONATHAN HILL
"We have two teams represented at this outdoor national championships. One team consists of one man, the other team has eight women here to compete for team points towards our final ranking.
Johan is our lone representative and if we had to have just one, it was going to be Johan. He's demonstrated unbelievable resilience on and off the track. He's ready to go and nationals is his time to shine.
Our women's team will be covered in the 100, 200, triple jump, high jump, pole vault, and 4x100m relay. We have opportunities up and down all three days to advance to score, and we're excited for the battle.
E'lexis, in her last NCAA Outdoor is an exciting but tough topic. She's been racing well and running steady times indicating a breakthrough is coming. If we execute and compete, anything is possible.
Emy is becoming quite accustomed to national championship meets, and it's been fun to watch her grow from happy to be here to competing for titles. Every meet is its own challenge, but I like where she's at and think she has everything it takes to do her best.
Lauryn is our other individual national qualifier. This makes her 4/4 in national championship qualifying (although we scratched due to injury once). She's a true competitor and when the bar goes up, she knows how to turn on another gear.
Our 4x1 has had this goal for a while and never allowed themselves to settle for "good enough" - I think we have a really fast time in us if things go our way, but that's up for us to decide. I like our people and am excited for the opportunity in front of us. This will be the most competitive race of the year obviously, but I think that will elevate our potential even higher."
Paving the way for CWU is the reigning indoor track and field triple jump National Champion
Emy Ntekpere who earned All-West Region in both the triple jump and the high jump.
E'lexis Hollis grabbed three All-West Region honors, earning them in the 100-meter, the 200-meter, and as a member of the 4x100 meter relay team.
Lauryn McGough also had multiple All-West Region honors, snagging the honor in both pole vault and javelin.
Joining Hollis in the 4x100 meter relay team that garnered All-West Region is
Ashlyn Nielsen,
Zoe Gonzales, and
Elise Hopper.
Payton Elenbaas earned All-West Region in the hammer throw while
Johan Correa was the sole men's representative, earning the distinction for the 800-meter.
