Wildcats Travel to Seattle for University of Washington Preview

SEATTLE, Wash.- The Central Washington University track & field team will compete at the UW Preview at the Dempsey Indoor Center from Friday, January 16 through Saturday, January 17. The 'Cats are coming off a strong performance at the Spokane Invitational two weeks ago, where several athletes' broke records and set the tone for the rest of the season.

ABOUT THE MEET
Friday's meet marks the second track & field competition of the season and begins with the men's weight throw at 1:00 p.m. Day one concludes with the women's mile heats at 6:50 p.m.

Saturday's action opens with the women's triple jump at 9:00 a.m., followed by the preliminary rounds of the women's 60-meter hurdles. The meet will conclude with the men's 4x400-meter relay at 4:30 p.m.

Several Wildcats will be athletes to watch throughout the weekend, led by Colton Magruder in the men's 60-meter dash. Magruder currently owns the fourth-fastest all-time mark in GNAC history at 6.77 seconds, ranks second in CWU history, and is tied for 11th nationally in NCAA Division II.

In the men's 60-meter hurdles, the 'Cats will be represented by David Brown, Ian Calhoon, Josh Boast, and Carsen Volle. Brown is a key competitor to watch after setting a new CWU record of 8.03 seconds at the previous meet, placing him second all-time in GNAC history and tied for 11th nationally in NCAA Division II.

On the women's side, sophomore Ashlyn Nielsen will compete in the 60-meter dash after recording a time of 7.56 seconds at the last meet, ranking eighth all-time in GNAC history and 15th nationally in NCAA Division II.

Another standout to watch is Maliyah Gordon in the women's weight throw. Gordon posted a mark of 17.15 meters (56'3.25") at the previous meet, ranking eighth all-time in GNAC history, third in CWU history, and 22nd nationally in NCAA Division II. She will look to build on that strong performance this weekend.

Reigning National Champion, Emy Ntekpere is another name to watch as she will be competing in the high jump, long jump and triple jump, looking to set her mark on the new season and build off of an impressive 2024-2025 campaign.
 
 
UP NEXT
The Wildcats will travel to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to compete in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational from Thursday, Jan. 22 through Saturday, Jan. 24 at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
