QUOTING HEAD COACH JONATHAN HILL
"Whitworth was a terrific host as always and the weather cooperated to give us a great opportunity to compete and lots of our team took advantage. Some of the most exciting breakthroughs happened on our distance side.Â
Camryn Holterhoff and
Colin Hitchcock got us started with PR's in the 10,000m. Colin improved his lifetime best by 51 seconds running 32:24 and placing 4
th overall!  The next event was the steeplechase, where
Julie Johnson made her event debut. She looked like a veteran out there placing 4
th overall as well.
Hannah Mikkelsen placed 7
th overall and ran 10 seconds faster than her time at GNAC's last year with lots of potential.Â
Charlie Naught and
Ethan Moore also made their debut in the steeplechase and ran the 1
st and 4
th fastest times by a freshman since 2002. We're looking forward to watching this group continue to develop. The 800 was awesome with all 3 of our women there running lifetime bests; Meggie, Helayna and Sylvie are all just freshman and are just getting started.  Johan opened up in the 1500 running 3:49, moving him up the record board from #7 to #3. Maybe my highlight of the day was
Luke Hurd dropping a 14:40 5k! His first time under the 15 mark, #9 in school history and the fastest time run by a Wildcat in 30 years! Shoutout to
Payton Conover,
Heidi Gill, Xitlalli Salinas Lopez,
Max Hutton,
Jack Pratapas and
Chase Perez – I think everyone one left with a seasons best."
Â
"On the short distance side, our men tied the GNAC/School Record with a 40.88.Â
Josh Boast,
Cohen Hall, Bauti Diamante and
Trevion Walker. Bauti had a really strong day running a new school wind legal record in the 200m (21.29 (+0.7)) and a monster leg in both relays (also moving us up to #8 in School History with our 3:16.. He primed to continue to move up the record lists.Â
Ashlyn Nielsen showed out on the 4x100 and the 100 becoming 2
nd in School History to only
E'lexis Hollis with her 11.96 (0.0). She was a big part in our 4x100 running a winning time of 46.29 (
Donna Marie Harris,
Ashlyn Nielsen,
Zoe Gonzales, and
Elise Hopper now rank top-5 in the record books). Â Boogy Brown is now 3
rd on our official record lists with his 14.68 (+1.1). I was really proud with how our pole vaulters fought to clear bars. And Carley was outstanding coming home with the event win and new lifetime best in the 400h. She moved up to 10
th all-time in CWU History."
Â
"Lots of good things happening. We're proud of our efforts and our progress. We believe in the work we're doing and ready to take on the Spring term and the remainder of outdoor track."
