Placed fifth at 177 pounds in 1966 NAIA national meet leading Wildcats to third-place team finish. In post-graduate athletic career was an 11-time AAU national freestyle place winner and a three-time Greco-Roman national champion. Alternate to Olympic Games in both 1968 and 1972. Coached at Newport High School and at University of Washington. Pac-10 Coach-of-the-Year and Rookie National Coach-of-the-Year in 1977.
