He was the first athletic training student to work under then head athletic trainer, Gary Smith. In 1972, he accepted his first position as a minor league athletic trainer in the Chicago Cubs system. Upon completing his degree at Central, he was accepted into the graduate internship athletic training program at the University of Arizona. He became a Certified Athletic Trainer in 1974 and received his M.Ed. in 1975. He has been employed as the head athletic trainer at Willamette University, Whitworth College, the University of Idaho, Oregon State University, Eastern Oregon University and replaced Gary Smith as the Central's athletic trainer in 1999. Other work experience includes professional travel to Oman and Kwait, two pre-seasons with the Seattle Seahawks and working at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, NY. He has also been inducted into the National Athletic Trainers' Hall of Fame, the Northwest Athletic Trainers Hall of Fame and the Oregon Athletic Trainer's Association Hall of fame.
