Jones was the fourth-leading scorer (behind Hall-ofFamers Dean Nicholson, Fred Peterson and Chuck Long) on the 1949-50 team, which was the first CWU squad to advance to the national tournament. Jones scored a career-high 41 points against Western Washington in 1951. Hal was elected to the 1951 all-conference team and played in three national tournaments. He also found time to participate in Denver’s AAU program, the YMCA in Boston and VFW in Bozeman, Montana. The Darrington High School graduate earned all-state honors in football and received his high school diploma at 16 years of age.
