Hallead, who prepped at Ellensburg High School, embarked on a professional baseball career with the Colorado Rockies organization before attending CWU. He played four seasons of football for the Wildcats from 1997 to 2000. He was a first team National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) AII-American as a sophomore, was named a third-team National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II AII-American by Football Gazette as a senior, and was the Columbia Football Association's Defensive Player of the Year in both 1998 and 2000. At the time of his induction, Hallead still ranked sixth on the school's all-time list for tackles (272) and twelfth for career interceptions (9). Since graduating from Central, he has been a highly successful coach—both as a CWU assistant coach for football and softball, and as a head coach at the high school level.
