Kim earned three top-10 finishes at national cross country meets and twice received All-America status. At the 1985 and 1987 cross country nationals she place ninth and fifth, respectively. She also took sixth in the 5,000 meter final at the 1987 NAIA National Track and Field Championships. Kim also excelled in the class-room, earning Academic All-America honors twice and NAIA District I Scholar-Athlete recognition three times.
