John Kirry, who, in addition to his dominating performances in the 400 hurdles, was two-time EvCo champion in the 110 high hurdles. He placed second in the 1968 NAIA national meet in the 400 hurdles with a time of 51.5 (still a school record) and has the second best 110 hurdles time in school history (14.3). Kirry participated in the 1968 Olympic Trials in Los Angeles. He was Central's inspirational award winner in 1969 and team captain in 1970 while participating on a mile relay unit that placed third at the national NAIA indoor meet. "I will remember always the thrill of being introduced to 80,000 Olympic Trials fans at the LA Coliseum," Kirry said. "The fans cheered wildly for each of us as we were introduced by name and school. I'm sure we were virtually unknown to them, but it was a great feeling anyway."
