Baker was a five-time National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) AII-American. In 1991, he won the 60-meter indoor high hurdles title at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships and finished second in the event the following year. In the 110-meter high hurdles at the NAIA outdoor championships/ Baker finished second, in 1992; fourth in 1991; and sixth/in 1990. At the time of his induction, Baker was still the CWU record holder in 110-meter hurdles (14.26). He came to CWU, where he also played one season of football, after serving for four years as a US Army paratrooper. Baker and his wife, Rebekah, have four children—sons Isaiah, Justin, and Anthony, and daughter Kya—whom he refers to as his "own relay team." Baker has also served as a youth football, basketball, track, and baseball coach. In addition, he remained competitive in Men's Physique competitions, earning his Pro Card with the International Federation of Body Builders.
