Bishop, CWU's athletic director from 2000-2013, successfully guided the university's transition from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics to National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II status. During his tenure, CWU won 16 conference championships in seven different sports, while qualifying 18 teams for NCAA championship playoff appearances. Bishop also spearheaded a $13.2 million renovation of Nicholson Pavilion, which included new locker rooms, a new weight room, gym facelift, and new offices. In 2013, the Division II Athletics Directors Association presented Bishop with its most prestigious honor, the Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes athletics directors who make exemplary contributions to Division II athletics and the student-athlete experience. CWU President James L. Gaudino said, "Jack always focused and placed the emphasis where it needed to be—our athletes' success as students." In 2011, Bishop was inducted into the Utah Sports Hall of Fame. He is also a member of Utah's Wasatch Wrestling Hall of Fame.
