Brown recorded back-to-back top 10 finishes in the 5,000 meters to win Ali-American honors at the 1978 and 1979 National Association of intercollegiate Athletics(NAIA) track and field national championships. He missed winning the national title in 1978, getting out-leaned at the finish, as he ran a time of 14:24.75. Brown also recorded the nation's best time in the 5,000 that season. In 1979, despite being injured most of the season, Brown finished sixth at the national meet. At the time of his induction. he still held the CWU, record in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:10. Brown was also the No, 1 runner on Central's 1979 cross country team that competed at the NAIA national cross country championships. Before coming to Central, he placed second in the mile at the 1975 Washington State high school track championships. Brown has stayed active" in track, coaching with the Beaverton (Oregon) Track Club and junior Olympics distance runners.
