Watson starred in the Central Washington backfield from 1983 to 1986. At the time of induction, he was the fourth leading rusher in school history with 2,223 yards, scoring 31 career touchdowns. Watson led the team in rushing in two of his final three seasons, including Central’s 11-2 campaign in 1984 in which the Wildcats claimed the Evergreen Conference with an 8-0 record. He paced the CWU ground attack that season with 1,003 yards, the sixth-best single-season performance by a CWU running back. For his effort, Watson was recognized as a Conference, NAIA District I and Little All-Northwest first-team selection and, a NAIA Honorable Mention All-American.
